CNBC’s Sara Eisen clashed with her co-hosts during a guest appearance on “The View” Thursday, defending President Donald Trump’s economic policies amid the conflict in Iran.
Twenty days into the start of the Trump administration’s military action in Iran, Americans are complaining about rising prices, especially at the tap. Vice President JD Vance said the tough economic times are just a “flip” in the current economy, but “The View” hosts were divided on their expectations.
“When you fill up the gas tank you’re paying 80 to 90 cents more per gallon than before this war started. That’s a sharp increase. It hurts. You feel it, and it’s going to affect your consumption everywhere. It’s an economic hit,” Eisen said, acknowledging the economic pain felt by many Americans.
“The good news is, there’s a lot of reason to believe it’s temporary and temporary,” Eisen added.

Eisen went on to argue that the spike is likely to be temporary, as oil prices should fall if tensions ease or if Iran’s ability to disrupt major shipping lanes such as the Strait of Hormuz diminishes. He added that markets are already showing low oil prices later this year.
“If” that’s a lot, “answered his partner Whoopi Goldberg.
“There are a lot of ‘ifs!'” producer Sunny Hostin admitted, continuing to blast the war as a way to spend money that could be better spent on Americans at home.
Broadcaster Sara Haines contradicted his speech underestimating the current economic crisis, saying, “Many people voted for Donald Trump because they were promised that gas, eggs, everything is cheaper.”
This didn’t happen, he said, “but now it’s very high, gas especially, remember, people come to work by transportation. Whether it’s a bus, a train, they all use diesel.”

Haines went on to refer to the video they showed of a TSA officer complaining about having to buy gas just to get to work, and criticized the administration’s speech, saying “You know, not understanding what real people go through every day is part of what keeps rubbing salt in the wound as we – I watch them talk.”
“They have no compassion, really,” Eisen said. “But if you look at the facts, you know, the economy is in pretty good shape and I know it doesn’t feel that way for everybody, and we have this trend that we talked about, you know, the rich are getting richer — “
“Very rich,” entered Hostin.

Behar asked Eisen if he would forgive everything because “the economy is in good shape?”
“No, no, I’m not condoning anything. I’m just saying, sometimes when it comes to President Trump, you know, you have to separate the character from the policies,” Eisen said, continuing to praise Trump’s account policy for children born in the US.
Haines denied saying, “The problem is that those policies are not going to benefit anyone in the near term and people are really getting hurt. I believe that the first priority of the government is to protect the citizens, but that’s not just at the borders, that’s also their pay.”
