The ‘Commercial-grade’ fireworks display is the latest 6th Street Bridge stunt

The elaborate, illegal and dangerous fireworks display on the 6th Street Bridge was the latest in a series of illegal events that have put Los Angeles’ iconic downtown bridge on the scene.

This incident took place on January 27 but was recorded on social media, where it has recently received attention.

Firefighters responded after a group of unknown people fired a number of explosives at the bridge, lighting up the sky and showering the asphalt with sparks as people approached to take video and photos.

The Instagram-famous bridge has been the site of pickpockets, hikers and copper wire thieves since it was completed in July 2022. Someone cut their hair as cars passed by.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the fireworks a “reckless incident” that put pedestrians and drivers at risk. Fireworks are illegal in the city of Los Angeles.

“The use of illegal, commercial-grade fireworks is dangerous and has no place on busy streets,” Bass said in a statement. “The LAPD is aware of this incident and is using all available resources to prevent it from happening again.”

An LAPD spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment or questions about whether the incident is under investigation.

In one video posted on Instagram, several people are seen on the side of the bridge dropping what appear to be several boxes of explosives.

Most people are wearing black hoodies, and some are wearing face masks.

The video also shows several people setting off fireworks on the road, including one group holding an orange ball, as traffic continues to travel over the bridge.

One person’s voice can be heard in the video instructing people which group should light up first.

“As soon as those are up in the air, we’re going to hit everything, okay?” someone is heard saying.

Then red fireworks appeared over the bridge.

Many firecrackers were seen lighting up the sky at the same time, being shot in the air as people surrounded the firecrackers and the bridge, now filled with smoke from the fireworks. Many cars seem to be parked just a few meters away.

Sparks can be seen falling from the pavement as people walk in the traffic lanes filming the show on their phones. In many places, cars are seen standing or driving on the bridge.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they extinguished many of the explosives that could be seen burning.

With its tall arches and lights looming over the viaduct, the 6th Street Bridge has become a beacon for Angelenos and the curious. It appeals to people who are looking for social media content, and those who are more interested in the illegal.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said firefighters were called at 10:27 p.m. on January 27 about a trash fire on the bridge.

Firefighters put out most of the fireworks that were still burning on the bridge.

No injuries were reported, and a police spokesman said firefighters were on the scene for about six minutes.
