Texas Democrats have called it ‘shooting squad behavior’ in the Senate race

Texas Democrats were called out Friday in an Atlantic article about “shooting party behavior” in the Democratic Senate primary.
“The latest circular and worst behavior of the group happened earlier this week, when Democrat Colin Allred, who once dropped out of the Senate race, endorsed Jasmine Crockett, one of the two remaining main contenders. He gave his reason for doing so in a video he posted on social media on Monday,” wrote the Atlantic writer.
This article refers to comments made by Morgan Thompson, a political activist who writes on TikTok under the username @morga_tt, who said that Rep. James Talarico, a Democrat, called former Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas, “a moderate black man.” Talarico, who is facing Rep. Jasmine Crockett, allegedly told Thompson that she “signed up to run against an average black man, not a smart black woman.”
Allred responded to the comments in the video on social media, and encouraged people to vote for Crockett.

Allred dropped out of the Senate race in December.
Chait wrote that Allred chose a very “inflammatory response” to post on TikTok.
“Allred didn’t be to record and share his response to Talarico, and he did not have to face his suspicions. You chose the most inflammatory response,” he wrote.
Allred said, “We’re tired of people using praise for Black women to cover up criticism of Black men.”
TEXAS DEM WHO SAYS GOD ‘CAN’T SEE’ NOW SAYS ATHEISTS SHOULD BE ‘CHRIST-LIKE’ THAN THEIR CHRISTIANS
“Everything about this episode reveals levels of pathological dysfunction. Crockett and his supporters are opening wide cracks that will hurt any candidate who emerges. They are presenting themselves with social justice jargon that might win a Wesleyan student council race but sound completely alien to most Texans,” Chait wrote.
Chait also criticized Crockett for his historically unprecedented voter turnout plan. The firebrand said he doesn’t need to win over voters who support President Donald Trump. In an interview with CNN in December, “Our goal is to make sure that we can engage people who have not been addressed historically.”
“Crockett has suggested that he can help drive casual voter turnout. The belief that there is a hidden base of left-leaning voters who will only bother to show up to the polls if a candidate sufficiently rekindles their interest is a decades-old myth,” Chait said.

He also pointed out that the concern over Crockett’s election was not racism, as he had suggested. Chait spoke exclusively with podcast host Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers telling listeners not to waste money on his campaign.
In response, Crockett said the hosts were saying “the silent part out loud.”
“I think the host said out loud the silent part, which was: If a White man can’t do it, then why would a Black woman dare to think she can?” Crockett said.

“One fatal flaw of progressive identity processes, which treat women and people of color as experts on racism and sexism whose charges of bias cannot be refuted, is that they shield bad arguments from scrutiny. The belief that swing voters in Texas are too racist and sexist to be compromised means that defeat is the only acceptable course of action,” she wrote.
