Smart living: Samsung SmartThings leads the future of hospitality

In all service-based industries, customers and patrons now expect environments that feel flexible, seamless, and personalized. Whether arriving at the lobby, settling into a room, or navigating shared spaces, today’s guests love interactions that reflect the ease of connected living.
Focused on its vision of “Powering Connected Innovation,” Samsung positions SmartThings as the integration platform that makes this connection possible. By integrating intelligence into displays, sensors, and devices, Samsung aims to create environments that anticipate needs, reduce friction, and enable employees to focus on high-value service.
Samsung Philippines recently offered an exclusive, curated look at how digital ecosystems can improve both the visual and behind-the-scenes flow of space at Samsung Business. ..Experience the Studio and SmartThings Home Showroom at the Science Hub Tower, McKinley Hill on Dec. 4 ago.
Led by the head of One Samsung B2B Vertical for Samsung Philippines, Anthony Atacador, the exhibition showcased how Samsung’s connected ecosystem – from expert displays, security solutions, to SmartThings-powered automation – can transform spaces into intelligent, responsive spaces that elevate the comfort, convenience, and overall experience of guests and customers.
“Samsung’s mission is really to empower and help business owners with our technology. And when I say technology, it’s not just our products but the solutions that Samsung has. What’s innovative about Samsung is the solutions we’ve created,” said Mr. Atacador.
Responsive room controls
Despite the difficulty, Samsung has designed its interfaces so that clients can navigate the controls with minimal effort. At the heart of this is SmartThings, which enables centralized control and ease of use for key room functions. By simply scanning a QR code, a guest can adjust lighting, temperature, entertainment and more.
This approach allows spaces to adapt in real time. Lights can gradually dim in the evening, the air conditioner can adjust before arrival, and entertainment systems can be synchronized with the guest’s device after a while.
Ease of use is important in diverse hospitality environments, ensuring that comfort and convenience are accessible regardless of the guest’s age, technical knowledge, or familiarity with connected spaces.
Ambiance is powerful
Samsung’s professional displays and hospitality TVs play a major role in creating unified visual spaces. With improved sizing, clear adjustments, and customizable interfaces, these displays can easily switch between welcoming messages, streaming content, and branded information.
This means that entrances, hallways, and rooms can maintain consistent visual quality. Businesses can tailor messages, present information, or enhance the situation with selected visibility, all controlled by centralized content systems.
Another forward-looking aspect of the studio is the demonstration of automated processes. SmartThings allows spaces to react based on time, occupancy or specific triggers.
Motion sensors can activate soft lighting during nighttime hours, shades or curtains can adjust automatically when the sun rises, and rooms can switch to energy-saving settings when they’re not in use.
Efficiency and performance management
SmartThings and Samsung B2B solutions allow managers to manage multiple spaces from a single dashboard. This includes monitoring device status, configuring room conditions, pushing broadcast messages, and configuring routing automation.
Additionally, Samsung’s Knox security platform provides device-level protection for all connected displays and mobile devices. In situations where guests often use personal smartphones to interact with in-room or indoor systems, Knox ensures that data is secure and that the device’s connection is automatically cleared after use.
Energy efficiency
Samsung also simplifies energy management within hospitality spaces. Powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and automated controls that respond to occupancy and time-of-day patterns, SmartThings ..helps reduce unnecessary consumption without compromising comfort. HVAC maintenance, lighting systems, and system wide switches contribute to stable operation.
“If I [manage] building and I have SmartThings Pro, SmartThings Pro can learn activity within the building. However, you can stop it manually,” said Mr Atacador.
In the long run, this arrangement contributes to reduced resource costs and environmentally responsible operations—a very important consideration for organizations that manage large areas and aim to balance guest comfort with a commitment to long-term sustainability.
From spaces to cities
At a broader level, the solutions provided by SmartThings not only strengthen industries such as hospitality but can also support the government’s long-term goal of building smart, future-ready communities.
As government agencies and private companies explore digital initiatives, ecosystem services provide models for modernizing public spaces, improving operational efficiency, and increasing service levels across sectors.
“Samsung is very passionate about helping our country develop,” said Mr. Atacador. “We’re not just trying to work with the government in terms of smart cities but with businesses as well.”
By demonstrating how intuitive automation and centralized management can improve convenience while reducing resource consumption, Samsung’s ecosystem aligns with national priorities for digital transformation.
“If our businesses are not digital, they will find a challenge in time, even our country,” he stressed. “Samsung will provide awareness and will provide the necessary education for people to understand the importance of technology, especially Samsung.”
As people increasingly experience connected living in their homes, their expectations extend to the places they visit. Samsung’s preview highlighted how well-designed connected spaces can increase the way people discover and interact with spaces.
