Stephen A Smith teases the 2028 presidential election amid Democratic concerns

As sportscaster Stephen A. Smith teases a 2028 presidential campaign this weekend, there’s one thing he and those who advise him should know: The Democratic Party doesn’t elect outsiders.
This is the lesson Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vt., we read in 2016 and 2020 as his populist socialist movement was blocked every time by party leaders. By praising him as a politician, Sanders and the Socialists, after ten years of work, have all taken the party.
The most appropriate example for Stephen A who would snatch the gold ring in 2028 is not Sanders, it is Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., whose mistreatment by the DNC led him to endorse President Donald Trump in 2024.

Smith, told CBS News that he wants to “be on the debate stage,” when Democrats compete for nominations starting next year. This is the very question RFK Jr. which he did two years ago when, unkindly, he was told to kick stones.

What Kennedy understood precisely and what Smith seemed to see, is that the heterodox, true centrist in the first presidential term is the nightmare of what we used to call the Party of Jefferson and Jackson.
Central to the Democrats’ national narrative is the increasingly critical perception that figures like Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger or even Kamala Harris, somewhat moderate compared to Sanders, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Squad.
Thanks to a compliant media, this story was working, even if it was false. Shortly after being elected, Spanberger raised taxes and supported him behind a series of progressive bills. But hey, he looks and sounds normal.

One of the reasons why this strategy works is that it is not opposed within the group itself. But all that goes out the door when the controversial Smith enters the fray.

Without Smith there, a so-called centrist might take issue with men’s weak response to women’s sports, for example. But can you imagine Stephen A, with a bunch of insults and painful facial expressions that let that slide?
When it comes to President Trump, the entire identity of the Democrats is predicated on his accusation of being a crime boss. But Smith doesn’t see it that way. He calls balls and strikes, and that kind of common sense makes hair developers look stupid.

Democrats have a real problem here, because if they use their usual on-camera tactics to deny Smith a place on the debate stage, they could do exactly that to RFK, Jr. he did, and said, “Give me a shot, but these people are crazy. At least I can talk to Republicans.”
When Kennedy pulled that machine, he brought with him to Trump’s side an army of Make America Healthy Again mothers across the country that may be the biggest reason Trump is in the White House today.
Smith also influenced an important demographic: the early manosphere, that of sports talk radio and the media. Forget about the alt-right activists on social media. Every 27-year-old with a FanDuel account knows and respects Stephen A.

In fact, there was a moment in the 2024 race when the political elite knew it was over. That’s when an internal poll of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters showed that President Joe Biden’s double-digit lead over Trump among members, turned into a 20-point Trump lead with Harris on the ticket.

That kind of change, so quickly, is almost impossible. So how do the Democrats get the Teamsters back? Well, Teamsters drive a lot of trucks, and guys who drive trucks a lot tend to listen to a lot of sports radio. Smith, literally, speaks their language.

It’s interesting that back in 2015, the first person in the public I heard say Trump was going to win, not that he had a chance, but he was going to win, was Mike Francesa, the Pope of sports radio in New York City. Later, I realized that these housewives talk to working-class boys all day about their work, so they give them information about the voters.
Democrats are in a tricky spot here. They can’t really let Smith shine and reveal how far they’ve come. But if they defame him, he has no power. In fact, he could have given a very good speech for the nominee at the 2028 Republican National Convention.
