A bystander’s split-second decision to confront the shooter at a Rhode Island high school hockey game is being credited with saving many lives.
Michael Black was watching the game in Pawtucket when authorities say Robert Dorgan, also known as Roberta Esposito, opened fire. Black explained the difficult time he chose to run away from danger.
“I told my wife to ‘run, run.’ He was sitting next to me and some friends and then he left and I was left,” Black said on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday.

“I got a clear angle on the shooter and I jumped on the fourth step and jumped him with my left hand,” said Black.
Black explained, putting his hand on the gun so that it wouldn’t fire. Others who were present called them “heroes” and jumped to help the suspect, but he was able to get a second gun.

“He fell at my feet, we looked at each other directly. His face was very worried, he put his hand in his left pocket and took out another gun and shot himself,” he added.
Authorities have confirmed that the gunman’s ex-wife and her son were killed in the incident while the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At least three others were injured in the attack.
Black said he injured his hand and needed nine stitches, but noted that authorities arrived within minutes. He said his son almost came to the game with his wife, and he said he was thankful that she was not there when the incident happened.
