NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!
President Donald Trump was briefed after a gunman in Minneapolis was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent, a White House official told Fox News Digital.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, demanded that the Trump administration remove immigration officials from the city.
A member of the Border Patrol shot an armed person Saturday at the intersection of East 26th Street and Nicollet Ave.
Minneapolis officials have identified the person as a 37-year-old white man, a resident of Minneapolis who is believed to be a US citizen.

“I just saw a video of more than six masked people beating one of our voters and shooting him dead,” Frey said at a press conference at noon. “How many more civilians? How many more Americans need to die or be seriously injured for this operation to end? How many more lives need to be lost before this administration realizes that political and partisan issues are not as important as American values? How many times do local and national leaders have to call on you, Donald Trump, to end this operation and realize that this does not create safety in our city?”
Frey said he is tired of local officials being told to lower the temperature, and that members of his community are spreading “vitriol” in the streets. He asked the administration to “think” about the chaos going on in the city, and ask themselves if they are achieving peace and security.
“If the goal was to find peace and security, this is doing the opposite,” he said. “If the goal was to find peace and prosperity, this does the exact opposite.”

“So for President Trump, this is the time to act as a leader. Put Minneapolis and put America first in this moment,” he continued. “Let’s achieve peace. Let’s finish this job. And I’m telling you, our city will come back. Safety will be restored. Please take action now to remove these government agencies.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told Fox News that the suspect was armed with a handgun and two magazines.
DHS said the police tried to disarm the suspect, who then violently refused.

“Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of other police officers, the officer fired in self-defense. Doctors at the scene provided medical aid to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene,” DHS said. “The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID – this looks like a situation where someone wants to do a lot of damage and law enforcement with a massacre.”
Blue-state governors also jumped into the fray Saturday morning, wasting no time demanding that the Trump administration get immigration officials off the field.
“Undercover federal agents in Minnesota just shot and killed another person. We have to stop Trump’s ICE. Now. Stop the funding, stop the jobs, stop the killings,” said Democrat Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on X.

“I’m asking my Republican and Democratic governors across the country to have a unified response,” he said in a follow-up post. “We must all stand against the lawlessness that is being practiced in our states.”
The posts follow a statement from Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who made the incident after the incident, calling the immigration police “untrained.”
“I just spoke to the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota had it. This is sickening,” Walz said. “The President needs to end this job. Get thousands of violent, untrained police officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

“Another negative effect from the operation of the state is clearly out of control,” he said. “The American people have had enough of illegal behavior that they pass as law. President Trump has a responsibility to stop it.”
