President Donald Trump is considering a $10 billion IRS audit

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he is considering settling his $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and donating the money to the organization.

Trump filed a lawsuit Thursday accusing the agency of illegally leaking his confidential tax returns in violation of federal privacy rules for political reasons.

A spokesperson for Trump’s legal team previously told Fox News that a “corrupt, politically motivated” IRS employee leaked classified and confidential tax information involving Trump, his family and the Trump Organization to outlets including the New York Times and ProPublica.

Speaking to reporters Saturday on Air Force One, Trump said he was considering settling the case and giving the proceeds to “charitable and reputable organizations.”

“We are thinking of doing something to help the needy where I will donate money to the organization,” he said. “We can make it big. No one will care because it will go to many good charities.”

Trump added, “If I’m paying myself, that’s not going to look good.”

“A lot of people on the outside are saying, ‘What a great idea,’ because nobody cares how much money goes to a good cause,” Trump said. “So you solve by giving a lot of money to charities and I think we’re going to do something like that. We’re looking at doing something like that.”

The president pointed to the American Cancer Society as an example of a potential recipient.

The lawsuit claims the IRS disclosures were illegal and harmed millions in violation of federal privacy laws.

The leak centers on a contractor, Charles Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty in October 2023 to unauthorized disclosure of tax information and is serving a five-year prison sentence.

Littlejohn admitted to stealing and leaking Trump’s tax records to the New York Times and separately disclosed confidential tax information about wealthy individuals to ProPublica.

According to the lawsuit, Littlejohn testified during his deposition in 2024 that the materials he destroyed included details of all of Trump’s businesses.
