After Team USA’s thrilling win over Canada in Sunday’s Olympic gold medal game, all Brady Tkachuk wanted to do was celebrate. However, he had to take a drug test first.

Tkachuk, 26, had wrapped up his media obligations and was on his way to the locker room when he received a tap on his shoulder.

“I get a tap on the shoulder, ‘Hey Brady, you’ve been selected for a drug test,'” Tkachuk said on a recent episode of his “Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk” podcast.

Matthew Tkachuk said players don’t have to take a drug test when notified, but you’re under scrutiny until you do. Brady said two other players chose to do their tests right away but missed a few plays. He didn’t want to miss any of these celebrations, so he chose to wait until the bus left to check out, which was within an hour and a half to two.

Matthew said the scout, a man he named “Little Johnny,” had a front row seat to the locker room celebration.

Brady said that, in about 40 minutes, he drank about five beers, three Powerades and two waters, but he had no desire to use the bathroom yet. He explained that the drug test requires 90 milliliters of urine, and if you don’t fill the cup with the required amount, you have to wait until you fill it.

Brady said that, normally after a game, he has no problem going to the bathroom, but because of the pressure to test to continue celebrating, he wasn’t sure if he could produce enough urine to complete the test. The captain of the Ottawa Senators said he was patient and finally decided to take the test 10 minutes before the bus left.

“Finally, 10 minutes before the bus (on the left), I said, ‘Eff it, I have to gamble, I have to gamble over here.’ And he did, and (it was) 100 milliliters. I said, ‘Thank God,’ because if I had to sit there and all the boys left and I had to meet them, I would be bitter.

Locker room celebrations kicked off a wild few days of Team USA partying.
