Missing Nancy Guthrie case: Law enforcement rejects burglary doctrine 1

New reports about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance as a result of a burglary were denied by a police source on Sunday, as investigators backed away from what they said was not the leading theory in the case.

The source, speaking to Fox News Digital on condition of anonymity, said the latest theory about the 84-year-old man’s disappearance is not the prevailing theory among detectives.

“This is not a viable idea in the department,” the source said before backing off on the burglary, noting that nighttime burglaries are not uncommon.

“Residential burglaries at night are ridiculously rare. Very rare,” the source said, before highlighting how “commercial burglaries” occur at night and “residential during the day.”

The source also questioned whether Guthrie’s home could have been burglarized.

“We have no indication of that [Guthrie] they were really keeping anything important there and if this was broken into they usually don’t take the victim with them,” said the source.

“I think anything is possible but my gut says it’s something else entirely.”

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos also addressed a new report by an Arizona TV news reporter that an inside source said investigators now believe the case was “a burglary gone wrong.”

The report also said that DNA evidence collected from the Range Rover found outside the Culver’s restaurant on Friday is being tested and it is suspected that many investigators believe that Nancy Guthrie is still alive.

“It didn’t occur to us. It makes no sense and while that’s one of many possibilities, we would never speculate on something like that. We’ll let the evidence drive us,” the sheriff told Fox News reporter Matt Finn.

Separately, the FBI has confirmed that a black glove found last week appears to be the same one worn by a man seen on surveillance video at Guthrie’s Tucson-area home.

According to a statement provided by the Arizona Family on Sunday, the glove was found two kilometers from Guthrie’s home in a roadside area. The glove was sent to a private lab in Florida on Thursday and arrived on Friday.

Federal officials said the first results of the DNA profile were received Saturday, and investigators are now awaiting quality control and formal verification before uploading the DNA profile to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS.

“The one with the DNA profile found is different and appears to match the gloves of the subject in the surveillance video,” the FBI said in a statement.
