Tippi Hedren was recently spotted outside daughter Melanie Griffith’s house, marking a rare sighting of the legendary Hollywood actress.
Hedren was photographed arriving at his 96th birthday party at Griffith’s Los Angeles home, helped up the stairs outside the residence.
When she arrived, she wore a floral blazer over a purple shirt, but changed into a patterned sweater on her way out, where she was seen being led up the stairs by a man, believed to be her grandson, Alexander Bauer.

This rare incident comes two years after reports surfaced that the actress known as “Roar” was reported to be suffering from dementia. She has previously been seen in a birthday post shared by Griffith on Instagram in January 2025, and at Griffith’s birthday party in August.

According to the Daily Mail, Spanish journalist Gustavo Egusquiza found out if Hedren was being treated after he reached out for an interview and was told by his representatives that it would not happen.
“He has dementia, and he can’t remember his work at all,” Egusquiza was reportedly told. “He just turned 94, so unfortunately, it’s too late.”

Hedren got his big break in the business when Alfred Hitchcock cast him in his 1963 horror film “The Birds,” which won him a Golden Globe Award for Best New Actor.
He went on to work with the acclaimed director again for the 1964 film, “Marnie,” but had a strained relationship with him. In an interview with Fox News in January 2017, Hedren said that he quickly put her under contract after finding her, and threatened to lose her job when she wanted to quit.

He said, ‘I will ruin your work.’ And he did,” he said. “He kept me under contract and didn’t let me work. It was just one of those Hollywood nightmares… It was so unnecessary. That’s what was so bad about this. It was just a sad situation. Just sad. But of course – life goes on!”
Despite her struggles with Hitchcock, Hedren went on to have a successful acting career, appearing in films such as “A Countess from Hong Kong,” “Foxfire” and “Pacific Heights,” until she began her own acting career.
Her daughter began acting at a young age, her first major role was in the 1975 film “Night Moves” at the age of 17, and later starred in “Something Wild” and “Working Girl,” which earned her an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win.
Hedren’s granddaughter, Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Griffith and her ex-husband, actor Don Johnson, also joined the family business. She made a name for herself playing Anastasia Steele in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy, and recently starred in “The Materialists.”

When it comes to giving her daughter and granddaughter advice on how to navigate the industry, Hedren said, “I’ve never done that with Melanie or Dakota.”
“I prefer to watch them and see their careers grow instead,” he said. “Dakota is an incredibly amazing woman and I respect her. We always have a good time together. But as far as giving any advice or sitting them down and being a teacher – I don’t do that.”
