LARRY KUDLOW: Reconciliation Bill Is The Only Way To Keep Our Military Great & Our Democracy Intact.

The next battle in the Iran war will probably be the Pentagon’s request for 200 billion dollars to keep our military in high condition, not only to end the occupation in Iran, but also to keep President Trump’s policy of peace in force. We want the best for our men and women in the services. Soldiers, sailors, airmen. They should have everything they need, today, tomorrow, and frankly forever.

But you can bet that the Democrats will use this request to fund the war with anti-war propaganda and will seek to block this important funding bill. I want to pause here before talking about Ways and Means to raise money for our soldiers. We mustn’t forget the sad narrative brought back by the special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, after the last set of talks with Iran. In fact, they boasted to Mr. Witkoff and his colleagues Mr. Jared Kushner that they had 460 kilograms of 60 percent enriched uranium. Right there, the negotiations ended because they would never stop.

But here’s the point: if you’re at 60 percent enrichment, you can bring it to 90 percent in seven to 10 days, according to Mr. Witkoff and many other commentators. And 460 kilograms of enriched uranium is not enough to create 11 nuclear bombs. That’s how close Iran is. And that is because many presidents before Mr. Trump has done nothing about Iran’s nuclear progress.

Now Democrats may say the Iranians have no delivery system. Really? However, they can deliver that nuclear bomb to neighboring Israel, very quickly. Or to our partners throughout the Middle East. Or in the European subcontinent. Whether they are able to produce an intercontinental ballistic missile is unknown, but there are many estimates that it will be much shorter than previously thought. Why risk that?

And then, we see Iran using short-range missiles against oil and gas producing countries right next door. Or bottling up the Strait of Hormuz and threatening the world economy. And since the early 1980s, let’s not forget, our State Department has classified Iran as a major state sponsor of terrorism. And then Iran has been at war with the United States for 47 years, the death of America, remember that? Not talking about death in Israel. The little Satan and the great Satan. That’s how they see us. Let’s not forget that either.

This Democrat argument that there was no imminent threat has been a bunch of phony balderdash. And we must not deny the funding that may be needed to complete the work in Iran.

Now, as important as this Pentagon request is, because the Democrats who are against the war will probably vote against it in the Senate maybe with the exception of Senator John Fetterman, the GOP will not get 60 votes for implementation. And that’s why I believe it should be done as a reconciliation bill that will only need 50 votes, and the vice president.

Speaker Mike Johnson and House Budget Chairman Jodey Arrington have already moved to fix the reconciliation bill. So far, the Senate leadership has shown no interest. But I’m here to tell you that it’s the only way you’ll get the money you need for the military. And the GOP will have to put its nose to the grindstone as it did almost a year ago, and put together a major reconciliation bill. There will be less spending, waste, fraud, and less abuse, more room for some rights changes. Maybe even tax reforms that support resource growth, but the most important issue will be our national security, ending the occupation of Iran, and maintaining peace with force.

Another point, the very important SAVE America voting rights bill, which will not receive 60 votes in the Senate to pass, can be included in the reconciliation package. Or at least we should try. Because proof of citizenship, photo ID cards, and other features will impose national laws that must be followed, and that will require money.

My guess has is that the Department of Homeland Security would be the ideal agency to monitor the election, just as securing the border requires a significant funding increase, so does enforcing the voting rights bill. So I’m here to tell you that the brightest minds in Congress must put their heads together and produce a strong reconciliation package that will preserve our military strength and preserve the right voting laws to support the largest democracy in history.
