House Republicans are calling for a congressional hearing after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot a woman in Minneapolis last week.
“We need to make sure people understand what happened and have a full accounting of it,” Rep. Michael Baumgartner, R-Wash., told Fox News Digital on Thursday.
Baumgartner is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, which shares oversight of ICE with the House Homeland Security Committee.
He warned people against “jumping to conclusions” about the Minneapolis incident but said about federal agents, “It is very important for everyone’s safety to be able to do their jobs without people being disturbed.”

“You never want to see somebody get killed,” Baumgartner said. “When you have a tragedy like this, many times people want to clarify any political party views they have about it. We would like all the facts to come out.”
Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot and killed in her car by an ICE agent last Wednesday. Various angles of the video show Good’s car hitting the agent who shot him, but debate rages over whether he was deliberately engaging or arming his car, or whether he was trying to drive away.
Federal officials, including Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, have defended the agent in self-defense while accusing Good of trying to obstruct ICE’s work in the Democratic-controlled city.

Democrats, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have accused ICE officials and Republicans of stoking fear and tension in the city while demanding the federal government immediately end the current operation there.
“I’ve heard different reports about people being activists or what happened, but you know, I like to get the facts out there before people jump to conclusions,” said Baumgartner.
The Washington state Republican also called Democrats’ rhetoric about ICE, particularly in relation to last week’s Judiciary Committee hearing, “unfortunate and inflammatory.”

The shooting has sparked simmering tensions across the country, with ICE and other law enforcement agencies operating in blue-chip cities and states that have refused to cooperate.

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said last week there would be a “full investigation” into the incident.

He said Wednesday that a video he saw at the time appeared to show Good “armoring” his car and suggested that criticism from anti-ICE Democrats was making things worse.
“This seems to be the result of this, months of rhetoric against law enforcement and people who encourage that kind of violence,” Johnson said at the time. “So we’re asking all the citizens of Minneapolis to calm down. We don’t want anyone to get hurt. We need law enforcement to be able to do their job, and this is a terrible situation.”
