NEWNow you can listen to Fox News articles!

Bill Guerin of the Minnesota Wild joined those in the hockey community mourning the loss of beloved hockey writer Jessi Pierce and her three young children in a tragic house fire on Saturday.

Guerin spoke to reporters, where he called Pierce, a field reporter for NHL.com, “a ray of sunshine,” and couldn’t contain how “heartbroken” he was for his family and friends.

“Words just can’t express how hurt we all are,” said Guerin. “But, as I said to some of you the other night, it doesn’t matter if you’re in the media, if you’re a player, if you’re in charge, if you’re a coach, we’re all in the world of sports and the world of hockey and we’re all in this together.

Guerin talked about what it was like to connect with Pierce at work.

“Jessi was always happy, happy, always happy to deal with me, and we will miss him,” he explained. “The good thing about our community is that it doesn’t matter what part of it you are in – media, player, coach, manager – we are all in this together and we support each other.

“I just want you to know that we are here for you and whatever we can do for you guys to help you in difficult times, we are here for you.”

Pierce covered the Wild for 10 seasons with NHL.com, touching not only Guerin and the front office, but the players as well. Wildcats outfielder Marcus Foligno told reporters the entire team was “saddened” to hear Pierce’s news, saying he will “definitely miss him in the ring.”

Pierce was known for bringing his kids to work, which Wild captain Jared Spurgeon pointed out.

“If you ever meet him, you just feel the strength around him,” he said. “Every time he was in here, he was smiling, whether he was talking about the current game or youth games.

“I remember when he brought the kids into the dressing room and did an interview [her son]. It’s very hard to take.”

Pierce has also had his work featured in The Athletic, B1G Ice Hockey blog, Minnesota Hockey Journal, and Massachusetts Hockey.

The incident involving Pierce and her children happened in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, fire officials said. The White Bear Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a single family home fire early Saturday morning.

Onlookers reported seeing flames coming from the roof, according to FOX 9. Firefighters also found the family’s dog, which also died in the fire.
