Harris didn’t want to deal with his VP, Shapiro reveals in a new book

Gov. Josh Shapiro, D-Pa., reveals in his new book that Kamala Harris didn’t seem to want the vice president to express her opinion directly to him, and said that she also doesn’t seem to like the job as she goes through the vetting process to be his running mate in 2024.

The governor wrote in his new book, “Where We Keep the Light,” that he had a knot in his stomach during his meeting with Harris, former vice president to President Joe Biden, and the process of vetting him to be his VP when he is a member of the Democratic Alliance in 2024.

Shapiro wrote that Harris was “very clear” that he didn’t want the kind of relationship where his VP would bluntly voice his opinions, even if he promised to support his final decision.

“If we had door A and door B as options, and he was door A and I was door B, I just wanted to make sure I could make a case for door B, and if I didn’t convince him, I would run through a brick wall to support his decision,” he wrote, according to The New York Times. “He was very clear that this is not what he wanted.”

Harris mentioned this in his memoir, “107 Days,” as he detailed his decision-making process that ultimately led him to elect Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Shapiro was considered a candidate since he is the governor of a large swing state and enjoys high approval ratings, but he and Harris did not meet.

Harris said in his book, “the constant worry is that he won’t be able to afford a second role and that it will wear on our relationship.”

“It could have been the other way around, if I had left that meeting I think he would find a partner and someone to fire him before he made a decision,” Shapiro wrote on his account, according to the Washington Post. “There was a world you could work in, but that wasn’t this world.”

Shapiro also revealed in the letter, according to reports, that Harris was not interested in being vice president to former President Joe Biden.

“He noted that his chief of staff would give me my instructions, complained that the Vice President did not have a private bathroom in their office and how difficult it was for him at times not to have a voice when making decisions,” he wrote, according to the Times.

Shapiro said he decided to withdraw from the race after meeting with Harris near the end of the trial.

When he asked to be put through to Harris to relay the news, he was told, according to the Times, “the VP doesn’t handle bad news well and I shouldn’t push it.”

Harris did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Shapiro’s book is expected to be released next week. In it, he also described being asked by Harris’ staff if he could become an ambassador to Israel.

The Atlantic reported in a section of the book devoted to what he described as “unnecessarily contentious” questions from Harris’ team – particularly former Biden aide Dana Remus, who asked him about being a double agent for Israel.

“Was I an Israeli agent? Was he joking? I told him how offensive the question was,” Shapiro wrote.

“Remus was just doing his job. I get it. But the fact that he asked, or was told to ask that question by someone else, says a lot about the other people close to the VP,” he added.
