Google Ads bug blocks editing in Performance Max property groups

A new bug in Google Ads is blocking some advertisers from editing and saving Performance Max (PMAX) property groups. Users report seeing error messages when trying to make changes to the platform’s interface, preventing updates from being saved.

Why do we care. Performance Max is highly dependent on resource renewal and replication. If marketers can’t update legacy groups, campaigns are vulnerable to outdated creatives, messages, or offers — directly impacting performance and effectiveness.
What advertisers see. Affected users experience reading an error message, “An error occurred. Please try again later. Value is required,” when you try to edit the information of an asset group. The error appears in the Google Ads UI and prevents changes from being saved, even if the required fields appear to be complete.
Google’s answer. Google has acknowledged the issue and says it is investigating. So far, the company has not shared a timeline for the fix or provided additional guidance through official channels for the situation.
A temporary solution. Advertisers can still make changes using Google Ads Editor, and upload updates directly to their accounts. While it works, the workaround adds friction to teams that are used to managing PMAX exclusively in the web interface.
What you have to do now. Advertisers using Performance Max campaigns should double-check the latest asset group settings to ensure that the changes were successfully saved. Those editing creative updates may want to edit the route with Ads Editor until the issue is resolved.
What’s next. Until Google ships a fix, the bug adds another layer of uncertainty to Performance Max management — reinforcing the importance of version testing and other workflows for advertisers who rely heavily on PMAX.
It was first seen. The issue was flagged publicly by PPC expert Chelsea Harding and she shared the error message she received on LinkedIn.
