Lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee are expected to come face-to-face with Ghislaine Maxwell on Monday, and the infamous Jeffrey Epstein, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiring with the late billionaire.

Maxwell is expected to appear before a congressional panel at 10 a.m. ET while serving his sentence in a Texas prison. His deposition will be closed, meaning it will not be publicly viewed unless the committee chooses to release the video afterward.

It is likely to be a short engagement, and Maxwell is expected to invoke the Fifth Amendment to avoid answering questions.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., announced that lawmakers will hear from Maxwell during a meeting to hold former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress by refusing to appear for the Epstein investigation.

“We have been trying to put him in his place. Our lawyers have been saying that he will plead guilty to the fifth charge, but we have finalized the date, February 9, when Ghislaine Maxwell will be dismissed by this committee,” said Comer last month.

Efforts to undermine the Clintons were halted, however, after they agreed through their lawyers to appear in person on Capitol Hill a few days before the House of Representatives voted to refer the two to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on criminal charges.

Comer’s team has been going back and forth with Maxwell’s attorney for months trying to set a date for him to speak with the committee’s attorneys.

He agreed to postpone his previously scheduled deposition in August after his lawyer asked him to wait until the Supreme Court decides whether to hear his appeal. The Supreme Court rejected Maxwell’s case in October.

The DOJ said at the time of his sentencing that Maxwell “seduced and trained young girls to be abused in many ways.”

Epstein was awaiting trial when he committed suicide in a New York City jail in 2019.

His deposition is part of the House Oversight Committee’s months-long investigation into the administration’s handling of the Epstein case.
