Police arrested 5 in the Indiana judge shooting case investigation

Indiana police have announced the arrest of five suspects in the shooting death of an Indiana judge and his wife at their home earlier this week.

The Lafayette Police Department said Raylen Ferguson, 38, and Zenada Greer, 61, both of Lexington, Ky., and Thomas Moss, 43, Blake Smith, 32, and Amanda Milsap, 45, all of Lafayette, Ind., were taken into custody following the attack on Judge Tippecanoe and his wife Tippecanoe on Jan. Steven Meyer was injured in the arm, and Kimberly Meyer was injured in the hip. Both are now in stable condition, police said.

Ferguson, Moss and Smith were arrested on charges including attempted murder, assault with a firearm and threatening to use a dangerous weapon, and gang and firearms enhancements. Police also classified Moss and Smith as “habitual offenders.”

Milsap was arrested on charges of bribery and obstruction of justice, while Gerer was charged with aiding and abetting a criminal and obstruction of justice.

“This arrest is the result of a comprehensive, multi-agency effort,” the Lafayette Police Department said.

Sunday’s incident was the first incident of violence against a judge, according to the Lafayette Police Department. Officials had no records of previous threats against Meyer or 911 calls from the judge’s Mill Pond Lane address, a department spokeswoman confirmed to Fox News Digital.

Audio obtained by Fox News Digital revealed that an unknown gunman knocked on the door of Meyer’s home around 2:15 pm on Sunday, then fired a shot at the door. Before he fired the gun, the suspect said, “We have your dog,” according to the audio.

“I am grateful for the support of my friends, the community, my colleagues in the courtroom, and the law enforcement community,” Judge Meyer said in a statement Wednesday in his first public remarks since the shooting. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my medical team. I’m receiving excellent care and I’m improving. Kim appreciates the community’s support, and she’s on the mend.”

“I want the public to know that I have strong faith in our justice system,” said the judge. “This horrific violence will not shake my belief in the importance of peaceful conflict resolution. I have always believed that we have the best justice system in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it.”
