Comedian Steve Treviño has come out to say that he believes Hollywood has turned his back on him because of his values, including his advocacy of family, faith and country.

During Wednesday’s appearance on the “Like A Farmer” podcast, the 48-year-old actor asked why he was not offered another Netflix deal after his 2024 special “Steve Treviño: A Simple Man,” which premiered in March 2024, was placed near the top of the platform’s comedy charts.

“Hollywood doesn’t like us,” he said. “Hollywood wants nothing from us. And that’s unfortunate, isn’t it?”

Treviño noted that the special information he focused on was his family life, his marriage, his parentage and his faith. He said the lack of follow-up from Netflix surprised him considering how the special did relative to others released at the same time. Netflix doesn’t publicly release detailed viewership data, but Treviño said his special ranked among the platform’s top comedy offerings that debuted this year.

“I was in the top five, using the numbers,” he said. “I hit 35 of them. Everyone I hit got offers again – I didn’t get another one.”

According to Treviño, a number of stand-up specials were released at the same time, and several comedians whose projects did relatively poorly were offered additional deals. The Texas native explained that the disagreement led him to question whether ideas, rather than performance, played a role.

“You have to ask why,” Treviño said. “I don’t care if you like me or not – sell tickets. Numbers are numbers.”

Treviño said he believes his emphasis on traditional values may put him at odds with the entertainment industry.

“I am raising the family. I am promoting God. I am encouraging people to love this country,” he said.

During his appearance on the podcast, Treviño recalled another experience with Amazon that he said strengthened his concern. He explained that he was asked to take a moment off duty where he thanked members of the American military.

COMEDIAN JEFF DYE IS LEAVING LOS ANGELES AND POLITICS FOR A NEW BENEFIT OF COMEDY

“They said, ‘Can’t Steve thank the soldiers at the end? It’s too political,'” Treviño said. “And I can say, what is it like to thank the men and women who work in politics?”

“So you have to ask yourself – is it because I’m keeping myself?” he said. “Is it because I love this country? Is it because I glorify the family? Is it because I glorify God?”

Despite his frustration, Treviño explained that he continues to build his career independently, relying on tours and interacting with fans directly rather than waiting for another big broadcast deal. He also shared that he is working on new projects, including a sitcom called “Walking Ball” about youth walking baseball and an animated show.

“Getting up is what pays the bills,” Treviño said. “And if Netflix doesn’t want to give us another offer, we’ll get it again. We always do.”

“I’m proud of it,” he said. “It promotes family, it promotes God, it promotes love for country – and we’ll see where it goes.”
