Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, who is running for the Senate, said she doubts the border data from President Donald Trump’s administration is accurate and accused it of being “too reliable” in the reporting numbers.
In an interview on Tuesday with “Meet Newspapers NOW,” NBC News’ Gabe Gutierrez asked Crockett about immigration.
“One of the key issues in Texas, of course, is immigration,” he said. “Yes, you have been critical of the president’s deportation policies and ICE.”

“But the majority of voters – the majority of Americans who voted for President Trump – think he’s done a strong job at the border. In fact, the numbers of border encounters are down, and the president is hailing that as a success. Obviously he has problems with the way he’s doing it, but has the president been successful – would you admit that – in bringing border encounters down?” Gutierrez asked.
Crockett responded that he wasn’t sure the border numbers were accurate.
“I’ll admit that which is reported that cross-border convergence is low,” Crockett said. “I will also say that we know that the administration has been very unreliable when it comes to reporting numbers, as we know now that there are reports that they have been unreliable about job numbers.”

Crockett described Trump’s immigration policy as “inhumane.”
“What I can tell you is that he used a brutal approach to immigration,” Crockett said. “What I can also tell you is that he didn’t work in Congress, and that’s what we need is comprehensive immigration reform. What I can also tell you is that we have a historic number of people who have died in ICE custody since he came in.
“What I can also tell you is that we have a historic number of American citizens rounded up, and what I can also tell you is that this Supreme Court, unfortunately, has given carte blanche to go after people because of their voice or because of how they look, and that’s wrong.”

In October, the Trump administration announced that they are closing fiscal year 2025 with the lowest arrests by the US Border Patrol since 1970, and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that there were 237,565 arrests at the southwest border in fiscal year 2025 compared to 201,780 in fiscal year 197.
In a statement to Fox News DigitalWhite House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said, “This is an outlandish theory coming from a woman who couldn’t even read the FEC website properly before lying on the House floor. It is true that the border is more secure in history, and dangerous illegal aliens are being deported because of President Trump’s policies.”
