A Georgia man shot two police officers who were interrogating him at a hotel after letting them into his room on Sunday, killing one and seriously injuring another, officials said.
The suspect who shot, identified as Kevin Andrews, 35, of Decatur, was also shot by one of the officers during the incident, Gwinnett County Sheriff JD McClure said during a press conference.
Andrews was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. He will be transferred to the county jail once he is released from the hospital.
The shooting happened Sunday morning near Stone Mountain, about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta.

The two officers responded to the Holiday Inn Express after a South Carolina resident reported someone had fraudulently used his credit card at the hotel, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement. The agency said the officers spoke to the desk clerk, who informed them that the room was rented by Andrews.
After learning that Andrews had a warrant out of DeKalb County for failure to appear, the officers went to the hotel room to arrest him, according to the agency.
McClure said the suspect greeted police at the door of his room and let them inside.
“They started talking to him about this incident or the incident,” McClure said. “And at one point the suspect pulled out a gun, in an unprovoked attack, and fired at our Gwinnett County police.”

The chief identified the officers as Pradeep Tamang and David Reed.
Tamang, 25, died of his injuries at the hospital. He joined the police department in 2024.
Reed was hospitalized in critical but stable condition Sunday afternoon. He entered this department in 2015.
Gov. Brian Kemp said he was “grieving the loss of a brave officer” and “praying for another speedy recovery.”
“This is the latest reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day, and we thank everyone who puts themselves at risk to protect their fellow Georgians,” Kemp told X.

Andrews has been charged with aggravated murder, murder, two counts of aggravated assault of a public safety officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which usually handles police-involved shootings in the Peach State, is handling the investigation, which is ongoing.
The agency said the case will be forwarded to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review once the investigation is complete.
