Robert Irwin was “terrified” of Los Angeles after competing on “Dancing with the Stars” and couldn’t wait to return to his home country of Australia.
In an interview with Fox News Digital at the NFL Honors, Irwin admitted he’d take an alligator over LA traffic any day.
“Hey! I learned to drive in America—it was the first time I ever drove on that side of the road, in L.A. That was the scariest part of the whole ‘Dancing with the Stars’ experience … it was the street in L.A.,” Irwin said.

Irwin, who won Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars,” admitted that he loved the support he received from American fans, but his heart will always be in Australia.

“Well, I think the thing is, I grew up outside and, you know, in the Australian wilderness. Being in that LA vibe was very different,” Irwin said. “But it was also really amazing because I heard a lot of support from all over America, and it felt great.”

He continued, “I was happy to come home, but also, you know, it’s equally good to be back in America to see all the ‘Dancing with my partners’ and that’s all really special. But Australia will always be where my heart beats and it’s where I’ll always go back to.”

“Being in LA for the last three months has been great, but I’m not a city kid. I live in the woods and grew up there, so it’s nice to be back where it’s a little greener,” he told the outlet in January.
Robert grew up in Australia with his mother, Terri, and sister, Bindi. The family is following in the footsteps of their late father, Steve Irwin, and keeping his work alive at Australia Zoo. Steve died in 2006 after being stung by a stingray at Batt Reef off the coast of Australia.
