INTERMEDIATE: House Majority Whip Tom Emmer calls out Dems, R-Minn., accused Democrats of hypocrisy in their opposition to the latest Republican integrity bill.
No. 3 House Republicans tore into the opposition party after nearly all of them voted against the SAVE America Act last week, especially for its provision that mandates government-recognized photo identification at polling places. It is sometimes also referred to as the “LAST Act.”
“These guys are setting an old broken record in terms of voter suppression,” Emmer told Fox News Digital. “Why don’t they announce photo IDs at the airport? Why don’t they announce photo IDs when you check out a book in the library?”

Emmer pointed out that photo ID was required for attendees to watch former Vice President Kamala Harris accept the Democratic nomination at the White House in Chicago last year.
“However, if they think it’s voter suppression, why do they require photo IDs at the Democratic National Convention to get in?” Emmer said.
“I mean, I think the American people are a lot smarter than these people can understand, they can let themselves understand,” he said.
The SAVE America Act passed the House on Wednesday with the support of all Republicans – a rare appearance in the chamber – and only one Democrat, Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas.
A previous iteration of the bill, recently called the SAVE Act, passed the House in April of last year with support from four House Democrats.

While the SAVE Act would have created a new federal mandate to prove citizenship in the voter registration process and impose requirements on states to keep their numbers free of ineligible voters, the revised bill would require photo ID to vote in any state. organization election.
That photo ID will also mean proof of citizenship, according to the bill.

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate both passed the bill, which House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called “voter suppression” and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., dismissed it as “modern-day Jim Crow.”

Jeffries also opposed a provision that would have the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) initiate removal proceedings if an illegal immigrant is found on state voter rolls, arguing that DHS would use the information as a weapon.
But voter ID, at least, has proven to be a popular standard in US elections across multiple public opinion polls.
