Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., responded with a quip Friday after President Donald Trump called him an “idiot” during a speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday.
“I am happy to know that I am in the prayers of the President,” the attorney wrote in a Friday message to Fox News Digital.
Speaking at an event Thursday, Trump accused Massie of being an “automatic no” to measures supported by some Republicans in the House of Representatives.
Trump said “there is something wrong with him. We call him Rand Paul Jr,” said the president, referring to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.

“They like to vote,” Trump said.
Massie defended his voting record on Thursday.
“The President of the United States called me an idiot at the National Prayer Breakfast this morning because I’m still fighting for what he promised the American people: Reduce spending, DOGE, no new wars, end foreign aid, protect 1A 2A 4A, increase, and expose sex traffickers,” wrote the congressman in a Thursday blog on X.
In a post on his campaign account, Massie, a staunch financial hawk, wrote, “#FeelingBlessed,” along with a praying hands emoji, before adding, “Trump attacked me at the National Prayer Breakfast today. I vote with the GOP in DC 91% of the time, because 9% of the time they destroy our country, start another war, start another war.”
Trump is endorsing Ed Gallrein, the GOP primary challenger to Massie in the Bluegrass State’s 4th District.

“People say that Thomas Massie became a Liberal because his new wife, blessed with their marriage, is said to be a ‘fire’ of the Radical Left. This new union went so fast that he probably didn’t know what he had but, nevertheless, he is a very bad and unfaithful ‘Republican’ – Maybe a RINO, or maybe worse!” Trump made the assertion in Monday’s Public Truth post.
Massie’s first wife died in 2024, and he remarried in 2025.
“Ed Gallrein, Farmer and War Veteran, is running against Massie. He is a man of HIGH TRUTH, and no Candidate for Congress could be better. He is running because he sees that Thomas Massie has been completely unfaithful to the President of the United States, and to the Republican Party. He never votes for us, he always goes with the Democrats. The Thomas Massie Disaster makes sure he loses!” Trump added in the post.

Massie fired back, writing to X, “Now he’s attacking my wife who voted for him three times. Maybe someone told him that she was the one who actually suggested I ask Pam Bondi in person at the dinner to get Phase 2 of the Epstein files. Bondi said the files are gone. As they say, the rest is history.”
