Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly open to a new NBA home as the Bucks weigh offers

As the NBA trade deadline approaches, Giannis Antetokounmpo appears to be willing to move to another NBA market.
“Several rival teams” are floating “aggressive offers” about the possibility of adding the two-time league MVP to their rosters, ESPN reported Wednesday, citing sources.
While Antetokounmpo has spent his entire 12-year career in Milwaukee and led the franchise to its first NBA championship in a half-century, the team may be more willing than ever to entertain offers that could return a large compensation to the Bucks.

A deal could happen as soon as next month’s trade deadline. This year’s deadline is set for Feb. 5, but considering the Bucks’ front office has shown no urgency to potentially remove Antetokounmpo from their roster, the trade could be delayed until the summer.
Reports over the past few months have indicated that Antetokounmpo has told the Bucks that he has reached a crossroads in the organization and is open to parting ways.

The latest news comes amid the Bucks’ three-game losing streak. The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Bucks on Tuesday, dropping Milwaukee’s record to 18-27. The Bucks entered Wednesday’s NBA playoffs at No. 12 in the Eastern Conference standings and are in danger of missing the postseason.
This fall, the 31-year-old Antetokounmpo will be eligible for a supermax contract extension. If he doesn’t sign an extension, the 2021 NBA Finals MVP will be set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

Last week, Antetokounmpo was asked about his level of confidence in continuing to wear the Bucks jersey through the 2025-26 season.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I’m taking it day by day,” he replied.
Last week’s 122-102 loss to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder drew harsh criticism from the 10-time All-Star.
“We don’t play hard,” Antetokounmpo said. “We’re not doing the right thing. We’re not playing to win. We’re not playing together. Our chemistry isn’t there. The guys are thinking about themselves, they’re trying to look for their shots instead of looking for the right shot for the team. The guys are trying to do it themselves.”

A calf injury will keep Antetokounmpo out for the next few weeks. This star appeared to be injured while playing against the Denver Nuggets last Friday. He suffered the same condition again in December, which resulted in him missing more than three weeks. Before that, a groin problem forced Antetokounmpo to sit out 11 days in November.
On Monday, Bucks coach Doc Rivers declined to give a timeline for Antetokounmpo’s return from his latest injury.

When Antetokounmpo was healthy enough to be on the roster, the Bucks compiled a 15-15 record this season. In 30 games, Antetokounmpo averaged 28 points and 10 rebounds.
