MS Now reporter Jacob Soboroff suggested that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest warrants could be used as “tools” by the Trump administration.

On Wednesday’s “Hasan Minhaj I Don’t Know” podcast, host Hasan Minhaj asked Soboroff if he believes the ongoing protesters who are filming ICE agents are “doing what MAGA wants” by showing people in custody as they hoped.

“Yeah, that’s a really good question, and I think there are people within the administration who want people to see this,” Soboroff replied, adding that he had previously been invited by the first Trump administration to visit immigration detention centers.

He said, “They wanted people to see what it was like inside. They wanted our meaning because they wanted us to go through it. And in a way, we were tools.”

Soboroff added that he previously acknowledged being used “heavily” by the Trump administration in 2024’s “Separated,” which was based on his book about the Trump administration’s family separation policies.

“I think they used us journalists to push their message of ‘we’re going to hurt people and what’s this going to look like,'” Soboroff said.

The MS NOW reporter has been criticizing the Trump administration for its immigration policies, until in 2019 he said, “No one has treated immigrants with cruelty – and I’ve seen it for myself – more than the Trump administration.”

In June, Soboroff criticized the Trump administration’s crackdown while reporting on anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

“Those people are our neighbors, the people we work with, the people we study with, our friends, our believers, our fellow believers, and churches. They are part of the fabric of the city of Los Angeles,” Soboroff said of illegal residents.
