Iran uses sea mines to stop shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

A former head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said that Iran has seized global electricity using “World War I-style” tactics.
Iran has responded to the US and Israeli strikes by stopping shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for the world’s oil. The regime is using sea mines, reportedly stockpiled by the thousands, to make crossing the road difficult and deadly.
“This is a nightmare more than 30 years in the making,” said former CENTCOM Communications Director Col. Joe Buccino (Ret.) Saturday on “Fox & Friends Weekend.”
“What you’ve just shown there on your wall is a World War I war strategy run by Iran,” he added.

Mines can detonate above or below the water, with the explosion likely to tear a hole in the hull of the ship, potentially sinking or crippling it. Buccino said that while the United States has advanced technology, mines are an active threat.
“These mines are really a tool of psychological warfare. We don’t know how many there are. We don’t know where they are. And that creates fear and closes the flow to the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
Buccino said mines are becoming a serious problem because the US Navy has “decommissioned” many of its mine-clearing ships. He warned that Iran may be aware of this and is “exploiting a gap” in US military assets.

Disturbances in this situation have caused oil prices to rise. President Donald Trump said Friday on the “Brian Kilmeade Show” that the US would agree to escort ships to the crisis “if necessary.”

On Friday, Trump announced that the US had attacked military facilities on Kharg Island, which is the center of Tehran’s oil infrastructure in the Persian Gulf. Writing on Truth Social, the president said:
“Minutes ago, according to me, the United States Central Command carried out the most powerful bombing attack in the history of the Middle East, and completely destroyed all the precious MILITARY objective of Iran, Kharg Island.”

Trump noted that the US has deliberately avoided targeting the island’s oil infrastructure but warned that that could change if Iran continues to disrupt shipping.
Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a statement on Thursday vowing that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the war ends and demanding the removal of US military bases in the region.
