Democratic members of the House and Senate on Capitol Hill responded to the applause by criticizing President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, calling it “a lie” and suggesting the president is not winning the way Trump says he is.
Some Democrats, such as Sens. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., say Trump’s move to blame former President Joe Biden for America’s current insolvency problems is out of date, while Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said he had to stand up and leave the president’s speech as he talked about health in America because he was “talking about health.”
Markey wasn’t the only Capitol Hill Democrat to accuse Trump of lying during his State of the Union address, with Sen. Cory Booker, DN.J., and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., using the same line of attack.
“I don’t want to answer all of Dr. Trump’s lies,” Booker said when asked about Trump’s state of the nation address.

But, in the process of discussing Trump’s approach to immigration, Blumenthal admitted “that the border is more secure.” That comment, however, was quickly followed by criticism of Trump’s handling of it.
“I’ve been interested in border security for a long time. I’m glad the border is more secure,” Blumenthal said when asked about his reaction to parts of Trump’s speech. “Some of the tactics used in the country, I think are sad and inhumane. That’s why I think there should be changes that prevent violations of the law and constitutional rights.”

The use of ICE proved to be a sticking point for Omar as well.

“It happens every time the president lies and blatantly forgets that his administration killed two of my people,” he told Fox News Digital when asked about some of the distractions during the State of the Union. “It is important that the reminder be there.”
When asked about his status in releasing money to ICE, Omar said, “look[ed] forward” to do it.

“Right now, it’s really about accountability and getting people in jail for killing Renee Good and Alex Pretti,” Omar said when asked what it would take to fund ICE and end the partial government shutdown that affects workers.
